I’m Sheila, and books are a large part of my personality. I wanted to have a tangible way to discuss what I’m reading and share my love of all things books. I have opinions, and I’ve finally gotten to a place in my life where I’m no longer afraid to share them.
I was born into a reading family; some of my favorite memories were going to the bookstore to pick out books as a reward for good grades. My mother’s love language was buying books. She showered us with books, and our house was bursting at the seams with books. As a child being grounded never seemed so bad because it just meant I got more time to read.
This love parlayed into a B.A. and M.A. in English. As you can guess, I’m a high school English teacher. I get to talk about books as a job, and I try to inspire the younger generation to find the joy in reading.
I love the renaissance that reading and the reading culture is enjoying at this time. Indie bookstores seem to be persevering against the behemoth Amazon, Bookstagram and BookTok are thriving, celebrities have book clubs and have the power to pluck authors out of obscurity, and I love that people are unafraid to discuss their affinity for reading. Even though, as a whole Americans are reading less than ever, there is a fun, subversive communities that truly values reading and books.
I spend most of my free time reading, or multi-tasking with an audiobook. I’m always cleaning, cooking, and doing laundry with a book in my ear. As my reading experience is vast, I wanted to share my reading journey and exploits with a larger reading community.
Enjoy my perspectives on all things books and reading!
