Welcome to my little corner of the internet. I’ve been kicking around starting a blog for a couple years, but I have finally decided to jump head first into the digital world.
Okay, here’s the situation: I read a lot. I’ve always been a reader, but since my house became an empty nest, my Goodreads yearly book counts has made it painfully clear that that I’m lacking in other hobbies. I would argue that I have taught myself to crochet, but I’m always listening to an audiobook when I am crocheting. I love to travel, but that means that I have ample time to read during flights or train rides. So yeah, maybe I have a problem, but it could be worse. At least I’m not mired in piles of thousands of books. I don’t buy a lot of books; I love my public library and I keep them very busy.
As I move through books, I read whatever piques my interest. While I do have my favorite genres, I will always give a book a try if it comes with a recommendation from a friend, colleague, or even one of my students. If you are reading, that is absolutely wonderful. I don’t care if your favorite author is Colleen Hoover or Fredrik Backman; the most important thing is that you are reading. There aren’t enough readers in the world, and it is truly becoming a lost art.
That being said, I have opinions and a lot of them. I find that as I get older, I have stopped caring what people think of my opinions or whether or not they want to hear them. I know this statement is contrary to writing books reviews because it is all about opinions. What I mean is that you don’t have to agree with my opinions, but you also not have to continue reading either. When I was younger, I spent too much time worried about what other thought about me or my opinions that it stifled me. However, age has given me confidence, and I do feel that I can provide insight into the books I read, and I plan to do exactly that. I started this year by promising myself that I would write a review for every book I read. I have done this on Goodreads; however, I decided that I wanted to put them somewhere else (so they aren’t Jeff Bezos’ property).
